Your questions.
Our answers.

  • Retail clerk
You attend a vocational school near the location of your apprenticeship for 1.5 days a week and work at your Wempe location the rest of the time. During school holidays, you can take a holiday or work as usual.

    Commercial specialist
The theoretical portion of the apprenticeship is taught in ten blocks of two to three weeks each at the BZE (Bildungszentrum des Einzelhandels) in Goslar or Springe near Hannover. There you'll meet the apprentices from other locations. Wempe takes on the costs of travel, lodging and meals. In Bavaria, the teaching blocks take place at the Akademie Handel in Munich or Nuremberg.

    Watchmaker
The theoretical portion is mainly taught in blocks in Glashütte. You learn practical skills in our training centre and later as you work in one of our locations.

  • For the apprenticeship as a commercial specialist, you need the German Abitur (German university entrance qualification or vocational college qualification) including a practical portion, for the retail clerk apprenticeship a school leaving certificate is enough. The apprenticeship as a commercial specialist takes three years and actually encompasses three training programmes: retail clerk, commercial specialist and trainer's training. The apprenticeship as a retail clerk is just one programme, but you can build on it after completion parallel to work and qualify as a commercial specialist.

  • Good marks are important. Not least because part of the technical knowledge is acquired in independent study and forms the basis for a successful qualification. But your enthusiasm for retail or watchmaking is just as important.

  • Longer stays abroad are not possible during your apprenticeship because of the vocational school requirement. However, short deployments to our locations in Madrid, Paris or New York can be included as part of the practical portion. We offer these specifically to apprentices who stand out with their exceptional commitment and excellent performance. They are a valuable chance to gain international experience. After qualifying, if you have the necessary language skills and long-term commitment, there is nothing to keep you from working abroad.

  • Lots! You can take part in professional sales training in Hamburg or get to know our head office or the Wempe jewellery studio. You visit our location in Glashütte, become familiar with other locations, and have access to a wide range of online training programmes on our Wempe E-Learning Academy. In addition, you build a network of important contacts and gather unique experience. Depending on the type of apprenticeship and focus, our training calendar offers plenty of unique opportunities for personal development.

  • Good German skills are very important for our customer support and for your apprenticeship with us – they help you succeed at vocational school and in the watchmaking apprenticeship. You don't have to be a native speaker of German, but we do require skills at the B2 level. If you have a certificate of your German proficiency, please enclose it with your application.

  • Our application process is mostly digital, so you can apply from outside Germany without any problems. For the final step in the application process – a meet-and-greet day at one of our locations or in Glashütte – you will need to be on site in Germany. We cannot offer you a position with Wempe without meeting you in person.

  • Once you have qualified, you can develop in different directions at Wempe.

As a watchmaker you can start working in one of our locations or in the service centres in Hamburg and Glashütte. You can choose between manufacturing, the service centres or in our watch service shops, and can change departments at a later time or advance to a management position in service or become he deputy manager of a location.

As a retail clerk or commercial specialist, you can become a trainer, assistant, deputy manager or manager of a location or boutique. At our head office, you can also train to become a team lead or department head in many different departments, such as category management, the jewellery or watch department, controlling or customer service.

Regardless of what type of apprenticeship you enrol in, we support your development with e-learning programmes and specialist trainings and courses. Also, we promote potential leaders as part of our Talent Development Programme and with leadership training.

  • Unfortunately, a part-time apprenticeship is not possible at this time.

  • We do value a well-groomed appearance. There are no uniforms at Wempe. Our preferred style is "individual chic". As soon as you start working for us, we'll give you more information on this topic.

  • Not all content applies equally to our international locations. If you are uncertain, please check with your recruiting manager.

The Luxury of being you

The Luxury of being you

  • Student internship

This is possible at many of our branches. If you are interested in watchmaking, we offer a three-day orientation internship in Glashütte twice a year. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer internships in the watch service departments of our branches.

  • Wempe Academy

You never stop learning. For us, knowledge transfer is an integral part of our team culture. And with the Wempe Academy, we have created the perfect place for this. Here, we will also support you after your training. Practical, individual and at the highest level.

This means that if you are interested in an apprenticeship starting in 2026, you can apply from August 2025.

  • What’s important in the application process?

In the application process, it is important for us to get to know you as a person and what makes you special. It is therefore particularly important to us that we gain as much insight as possible into who you are, why the chosen apprenticeship is the right choice for you, why you have chosen Wempe as your practice partner, what experience you have gained so far and what drives you. We are looking forward to getting to know you!

  • Review of Application Documents

We review your application carefully. Please understand that this process may take some time.

  • Video Interview

If your documents convince us professionally, we’ll invite you to an initial video interview. This is a time-limited interview that you can record at home using a computer or smartphone.

  • Video Assessment

The video assessment helps us get to know you personally and gain an impression of your communication skills, presence, and motivation, as well as how you would react in certain work situations. A video assessment is also possible if, for example, you are currently abroad.

  • Personal Interview

During the personal interview, we want to learn even more about you. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know us and our company better. We’ll invite you to one of our branches and/or boutiques or specialist departments for this.

  • Hiring

At the end of the application process, you’ll receive feedback from us. If everything fits, we’ll give you a call, offer you a contract, and provide information about your start and onboarding.
    Welcome to Wempe!

  • Application Deadline?

There is no fixed application deadline. However, we recommend applying as early as possible to ensure your preferred location is still available! • What sets our apprenticeship apart from other training companies?

At our Watchmaker Training Center in Glashütte, personalized support is our top priority. Our training program is flexibly structured and fosters an open feedback culture. You’ll receive a thorough foundation in all areas of watchmaking, work with a wide range of premium brands, and gain early hands-on experience with customer interactions as well as in our workshops. After completing your apprenticeship, we offer strong opportunities for continued employment in three different career paths.

  • Review of Application Documents

We carefully review your application. Please understand that this process may take a bit of time.

  • Telephone Interview

The phone interview is your first opportunity to introduce yourself—no travel, no formal interview setting. It’s usually a short but important step in the selection process, where we can get a first impression of each other.
We’ll go over your résumé briefly, talk about your motivation for pursuing watchmaker training, and clarify any questions you may have about the apprenticeship or the overall conditions.

  • Applicants' Day in Glashütte

An on-site visit where you can get to know Wempe better—and vice versa. You’ll meet potential future colleagues and supervisors and take part in small tasks such as a hands-on exercise or trial work session, as well as a logic and concentration test.

  • Hiring

At the end of the application process, you’ll receive feedback from us. If everything is a good fit, we’ll call you, offer you an employment contract, and provide all the information you need about your start and onboarding.
    Welcome to Wempe!
