Rolex Vintage Straps: There is a trend towards a second wristband

The moment might come when you are simply fed up with the loyal companion that you have worn on your wrist for many years. If you don’t want to dig deep into your pocket or save up money for moths to afford a new timepiece, there is a clearly more cost-neutral option to restore the affection felt for your watch.

The most important watch accessory takes centre stage in this case – the wristband. Many customers often don’t know that you can give free rein to your creativity especially when it comes to Rolex watches. I will show you on the example of my vintage Datejust reference 1601 from the 1970s how you can give your watch a trendy touch this summer. One of the most important trends of this year, as already last year, are NATO straps. These favourably priced watch straps were originally used by the army. Soldiers used to wear their wristwatch chronometers on this kind of strap until the end of the 1990s. Once the steel bracelet is removed, it’s a child’s play to change the strap whenever you like. Manifold colour options are at hand.
Here for example a maritime combination in blue and white.

To give the 1601 an even greater vintage appeal, you may also use a leather NATO strap, as shown on the picture. These straps are available from the leather manufacturer Kaufmann in naturally tanned cowhide or even more sturdy Shell-Cordovan leather. Those who like it more elegant and want to wear the watch with a nice suit can of course also combine it with a classic alligator skin strap.

As you can see, you can give your watch a new appearance by little means.
Have fun and try it out for yourself!
