Those who have read my former blog posts know that I am a great fan of tennis and that don’t want to miss any occasion to familiarize my customers with this sport. The tension and absolute quietness during the tournament is pure adrenaline and there are always those moments that send shivers down your spine. Tennis matches are a customer event that is simply not to beat when it comes to emotions. There is actually only one tournament that surpasses everything else seen before: the Wimbledon Championship. A once-in-a-life-time experience that I was able to share with three of my customers at the end of June thanks to long planning and good contacts.
W The trip started on Monday, 22 June by plane to London. We quickly checked in at our hotel and set out directly to the Grand Slam Tournament – let the tree-day trip begin! Despite typical rainy weather, the atmosphere at the site was impressive and we were immediately caught by the tennis fever. We watched Alexander Zverev winning against Paul-Henri Mathieu; we were close to the action when our protégée Philipp Kohlschreiber lost against Pierre-Hugues Herbert and we shared Dustin Brown’s happiness about his victory after a hard fight. The exciting day was rounded of in the evening by a drink at London’s trendy bar “Novikov” and a fine diner at the restaurant “ZUMA”. Customer trips are always exciting for me as organizer and host. Nothing is left to chance. The schedule has to be planned in detail and possible changes must be taken into account beforehand. However, some things cannot be planned at all. And this was a lucky incidence for us in this case. It happened that were seated at tea time in our hotel next to the Serbian professional tennis player Novak Djokovic, currently number one on the world ranking. We absolutely had to seize the chance to meet him. We asked him politely to pose for a picture with our group and wished him good luck for the forthcoming tournaments. This was for sure an encounter that we will always keep in good memory. The trip to Wimbledon showed me how varied and stimulating my job as general manager of a Wempe branch is and makes me look forward to what lies ahead. So stay tuned to my next posts in this blog!
